I'm at the "tyre kicker doing sums" stage.... 
....Although... I do have the vehicle dimensions typed into my mobile so I can check if it will fit in my garage at home!!
I'm looking at a 996 an 03 C4S coupé (finances permitting).... I know naff all about cars & enjins & all that malarkey... quite frankly the whole Porsche ownership territory scares me slightly... it's so confusing, the models, the what to get/avoid points...
....but I know what I like, it has to be an 'S' it has to be black, and it has to have a lid... and something my budget *may* permit - I've heard Porsche finance is reasonable?? that would get me a car about 3 years old....
Could someone tell me in really simple terms (if you have a small child, imagine you're explaining to them!!) what are the key things to be aware of - specific to this car? - the things that bother me are:
*Average service / running costs - intend to keep for about 2/3 years & trade up? currently commute on train so it's pretty much weekend use only.
*Depreciation - if it's 3 years old already, do prices plateau or continue to decline? I kinda need to estimate where I will be with this sort of car in 3 years...
*This particular model's quirks/ concerns
I know it's all subjective and after reading some of the other threads *snigger* I think this forum scares me more than the purchase!!

Blimey come on chaps help the kitty out, shes a nice lass & looks lovely in her bike leathers 
I dont know much or care much about non GT3 996 really kitty, & i think depreciaion is a foreign word, but cant help thinking you will loose a stack of wedge on that spec 996 over 3 yrs tho, with 997 then being thick on the 2nd hand market.

First thing to do is go and get a test drive as you need to be sure you can live with the car and enjoy driving it before worrying about all the details.
That said, I'm sure you'll love it!
For finance I'd recommend Rob Johnson at www.classicandsportsfinance.com (no affiliation etc etc) - several folk on here have used them (including me!) and found them to be very helpful and flexible.
Good choice of model and spec (IMHO).

Try and buy one with the PSE fitted-Porsche sports exhaust...although you can have it retro fitted at an OPC for £1700-ish
Make sure it has Sat Nav....much easier to sell on.
Had my black C4S since Sept 05 and its cost me a grand total of £11.99..1 litre of oil

Autotrader have a good few C4S around the £45k mark 2002/2003 cars various colours and specs
With that sort of budget you should find something pretty special - in fact I reckon you may even have over budgetted by £5K or so. Of course if you ADD a few more £££ you'll soon be in early 997 territory.
