complete list of differences between 996 and GT3?
Discussion
Dan Harman posted an interesting link in another thread (ttps://techinfo.porsche.com/techinfo/index.jsp
), which made me wonder if there is a document anywhere which details every difference between a 996 (2000 or 1999) and a MK1 GT3, part by part. Does anybody know of such a document ? And, while we are at it, does a document exist which lists every difference between a Mk1 and a Mk2, part by part ?

So much of the GT3 is bespoke, I would be surprised if such a document exists.
For a start the engine is completely different and costs £40k alone.
Secondly, the GT3 suspension doesn't exist on the 996 options list. It's effectively -30mm (the RS is effectively -40mm) whilst the lowest standard adjustment is -20mm.
Suspension mounting ? certainlt the RS is different from the GT3 but as for the GT3 / C2 comparison, who knows ?
Many people try to copy GT3's, but most of them are bodywork only, and with good secondhand GT3 MkII's at mid £50's, I am certain it would cost more to try to make a GT3 from a C2, than to buy the real thing.

I don't have any more info on the web. I got the link to the docs you mention from someone on rennlist, and was surprised to find such detailed info.
If you could get hold of the hardback mk1 GT3 sales literature I'm sure you could obtain much of the info you want. The docs I already linked do highlight some of the differences vs the mk1.

Apologies for being a bit short. Yesterday was a bad plumbing DIY day and I think you saw some of my frustration boiling over.
Being slightly more constructive, you could buy the PET parts CD(someone on PH will usually sell you/burn you a copy) and you could trawl through each and every part for a standard Carrera and then compare them by going through the GT3 section to get all of the parts that are unique to the GT3. Would take time but would answer a lot of your questions. Be careful with Porsche though because sometimes the parts might be common to both models but have different part numbers so that Porsche can charge GT3 owners more money for the same part. The CD will not give differences in terms of specifications though.
Good luck in your quest.
