MK1 GT3 mafia...

I'm gonna risk being heavily flamed on this one but maybe astute buyers (of weekend toys and great driving cars, minus the rear seats) have come to notice what a hec of lot of car and thoroughbred you get for say £45k+ ish compared to a new boxster, coxster, used 996, decent deposit on a 997S, dream prices on the last of the aircooled...(of which i am a huge fan btw) etc.

I reckon you could be right, I bought a new one in 08/03 and p/x`d for a 360 a year later, I`m now thinking about getting another one ( gt3) , nothing else has come close to replacing that buzz ( the 360 comes very close, but I cut my teeth on a 911E not a 246 Dino)only drawbacks : driving too fast and that wing..., IMO

Looks a bit like the GT2 one...I had a quick trawl of the market this evening.
The Porsche UK network have only 5 GT3's including 2 x RS', 1 x club sport and 2 x more comfortable ones.
Top marques had a very modest selection of Mk1's and 2's and a couple of RS' --- many with specialist dealers.
And PH -- have a very few.
PCGB reckon that there were around 130 Mk1's of which 28 are CS versions, whilst there are 239 Mk2's plus 113 RS's.
Since the new 997 GT3 may appear a little Max Power, the above sleek beauties may garner increasing appeal ....

couldn't agree more with this thread.I don't know what the catalyst was but GT3's are being snapped up left,right and centre as people finally wake up to the value they currently represent.To think that a well specced new Cayman costs MORE than many barely used GT3'S is ludicrous imo,in terms of driving tool there is no comparison.I think that the depreciation is largely over for GT3's (mks 1 and 2) whereas I suspect the opposite is true for 'newer' Porsches which are being supplied in ever increasing numbers.However good the 997GT3 is (and I hope it's marvellous although it will have to go some to improve on what we've already seen) the earlier versions should remain justifiably sought after at these prices...Enjoy.
Hi from another member of the Mk1 mafia (albeit LHD !!).
Had mine a couple of months now, absolutely love it – just wish I could get to drive it more often.
No connection to me but, if anyone is interested in a RHD Mk1 Clubsport, there is one at www.top555.co.uk. Just under 50K but it has only done 13K miles – looks mint from the pics.

Have to agree with ajit's comments. 45k spent on a sensational gt3 seems much better value than spending the same on a boxster or a used 996 which, though thye are great cars no doubt, are going depreciate heavily and arent even in the same league with regards to performance.

One of my favourite motoring quotes was Luca di Montezomolo (the big wig at Ferrari) - talking about the F50 or F40. He described the emotion in the typical customer's mind
" I liive once, an' I musta aav diis caar"
Buggery to the depreciation and wear and tear. We are fortunate to drive a Porsche race car tamed for the road (perhaps their most successful race car?). Get it, drive the pants off it, track it, rack the miles up. Enjoy every minute of it. Its not a dress rehersal.
(this may be the cognac talking, but its good cognac!)
