Hi all,

Does parking the Boxer horizontal engine at an angle affect the oil reading and start-up oil flow more than other typical (upright as lost for technical vocabulary) cars? I notice that on my Boxster, if I park on a camber, with drivers door down the hill, the oil level light takes a second to go out and there is a tiny rattle on start-up from cold.

Cheers,

Steve.

Regarding the start up noise... It's a wet sump design - depends on severity of slope, but if you haven't got a good head of oil above the pick-up pipe then it could suck up air to begin with and a hydraulic tappet could be initially starved of oil.

That would seem to make sense, thanks. It's due for an oil change ASAP so I'll leave it alone untill then.

Cheers,

Steve,

As an aside; parking a Boxster on a pronouced slope, could also encourage slight water ingress into the cabin. Parking it level, it should never be a problem.

On my 911 SC, parked at an angle for a week (just after I had it), started up and got scary smoke.

Turns out its characteristic of (that age) Boxer engine (oil seeping into chambers).

All was ok.

Didn't rattle though
