HELP! Only one headlamp

Hi Guys,

The offside headlamp on my 993 has stopped working. I've replaced the bulb & fuse (both look to be fine) and it's still not working.

Short of stripping the car down myself or paying extortionate labour rates for someone else to do the same, is there anything else obvious that it might be?

You're not being very specific ... ie, high beam, lo beam ?? Have you had the headlight out ? If so, you've probably not got the connector back in, and also probably shifted the mounting bracket. Quickest fix is to remove the headlight, take the plug off the mounting bracket, connect plug to headlight and reinstall.

If not, pop the lever, get it out, check inside for blown bulbs, replace as necessary, refit ensuring the plug / socket mate successfully. Listen for signs of ecstatic coupling ...

Sorry, should have said. It's the dipped beam that's not working. I've had the unit out a couple of times and checked and double checked that the spade connector is attached to the back of the bulb and that the main connector plug (with 7 mini spade connectors) is intact and that the lamp unit is slotting back into it. Main beam works fine.

Is there also a relay that could have blown or do I literally need to trace the wire from the back of the bulb all the way back to the fuse box and beyond? Is there a simple solution that I'm not aware of?

Google for a wiring diagram and get your multimeter out. You should only have to trace the 12V supply back to the point where it splits from the other light. Logically the fault can only be between that point and the bulb. The earth must be good as high beam is working.
