www.j-m-h.co.uk/porsche.html

They advertise themselves as Ferrari and Porsche specialists. Based in Holmes Chapel.

(Just looking at possible places to get a 993 serviced locally, if I do go down that road. I know about Ninemeister in Warrington, but it's the other side of the county and not exactly on my doorstep. Not wholly impractical, but enough of a schlep to make me look closer to home)

Any feedback appreciated!

Not been to them I am afraid to comment (although passed them numerous times).

However if you do go there, the roads right next to it are fantastic - especially to Jodrell Bank.

I had my old 964 looked after by John at Unit 11 in Warrington - just off the Grange, after Thelwall, heading North.

Top bloke, very through and can fabricate and repair stuff, not just replace.

Cheers

My vote goes for John too. Used him for three years and always had top class service. Been for a gander at the other place and wasn't impressed. OK it's not scientific but you want to feel comfortable where you spend your money

Bumping my own thread (almost a year on - doesn't time fly?!) to see whether anyone has anything else to add.

The first service of my ownership is looming for my 993 Targa so I've been getting prices. I had planned to use Mike and Sports and Classic given that he comes highly recommended on here but this mob have quoted me £265 plus VAT for the 12K service, which is quite a bit cheaper.

If money was no object, I'd go with the recommendation but £100+ is a worthwhile saving if they're going to do a decent job.

So, anyone used them or know anything about them?

I thought that read country when I first read it.

I actually know people who travel to different countries to get their cars serviced.

If its just 'county' then do yourself a favour and get it done right.....

Hi there
I do alot of there work for them as far as porsche goes as they have no dealer level diagnostic or technician from a porsche background...their primary work is ferrari 360 race cars..

I would ring them back up and see what you are getting for your money as a 993 needs a plug change every 24k so yours would not be included in this price...

on average a 12k service on a boxster which is just oil and NO oil filter according to porsche GB is about £190-£240 depending where you go... then how can some one fit a fuel filter, air filter 2 oil filters and spark plugs not to mention the pollen filter inserts too for £265 plus v.a.t !!!

Not possible in my opinion.....

Keep us informed..

If you trsust one guy and its £100 more than I guy you don't know, I think I know what I'd do.

If you are still not sure try to find which of the two best represents the average specialist price. JZM and others put their fixed price services on line. If the cheap one is unusualy cheap their will be a reason...

I use JMH in holmes Chapel and have nothing but praise for them. So far they have done brakes (less than half the price of OPC),fitted my PSE with switch, fixed the rattling suspension that the OPC tried to do twice and couldnt and other stuff I cant remember. They are great. They DO have the diagnostic stuff or borrow it as I have seen it. Jason is very proffesional and nothing is too much trouble. I will definatly be using them for everything in the future except regular servicing as I want the OPC stamp.
Plus its like a playground in there-Lambos' and Ferraris' all over the place. Oh and there are always 993s in there too. He is also capable of re-building engines that have failed too.

From their website:

We have our own Porsche PST2 diagnostic equipment which can pin point a problem on your vehicle quickly and easily. This in turn helps us to rectify the fault and return the car to you in the quickest possible time. This technology can be used on your Boxster, 993, 996 and Cayenne.

Now, now, knocking the competition is not very sporting.

I use Jason's outfit (JMH). I've had the car serviced, new radiators and new brake discs done there. All of their service has been excellent, done in a timely fashion and at a very reasonable price. Nothing seems too much trouble. Recently my exhaust developed a rattle. After checking all the usual culprits (heatshields) I still couldn't find the cause. Jason said pop it round at closing time and within minutes traced it to a loose lambda probe, tightened it up and charged me £0.00

They are a 2 minute walk from Holmes Chapel Station which is very convenient when you need to leave the car there. A definite recommendation for them from methumbup

Thanks for that info Boxsey. I normally use Ninemeister but it's always worth having a local alternative that's been well recommended...
