LMFAO again!
Mine was faulty (knackered) when I bought the car, but the supplying dealer fixed it foc. Two of the 4 cars I viewed prior to purchase had the same fault.
I posted a thread on here some time ago about the various similar 'minor' faults that our supposedly brilliantly engineered cars have. Creaking screens; crap lights; leaking oil seals; stiff gearboxes etc etc and questioned whether we were all a little blinded by the myth of Porsche engineering. (mine 'only' had the strap problem luckily)
I love my 993 for its unique character and its classic appeal, but agree with you Stevo; there's something wrong when they can't even design a working door strap!

Come on guys, they're classics FFS! All those minor faults had to be deliberately engineered by Porsche to add a bit of character, otherwise they risked being so well built and faultless that they seemed a bit bland!
Damned 996 owners are so insecure it's getting ridiculous - bunch of wets...
WTF is this 'door check strap' problem anyway? I've had 3 old highish mileage 993s and none of them had dodgy doors, they all shut like bank vaults and opened without falling off.
The design faults in the 993 IMO are the shite aircon, the duff headlights and the electric heater flap motors (though the latter may simply be age / wear and tear rather than original inadequate design). Apart from that the car's pretty solid, though it really could do with 5 cupholders and somewhere to park my MacD's takeout when doing doughnuts in Sainsbury's car park.
And to all you pansies complaining about squeaking windscreens??? I take it you're still running standard exhausts and never go above 2500 rpm? Come on, slap on some Supercups, wind the windows down and bounce it off the rev limiter a few times. Also, the rear view mirror attachment is bloody annoying if you want to fit fluffy dice, they get in the way. Rock 'n' roll.
