Facelift a 996?

Fellas & Girl,

Being a complete numpty i've fust bumped my pride & joy 996 4cab

Shunted a car at traffic lights at walking pace (don't ask!) which means Bumper, Light, entire N/S repair.

However this also means that for a little bit extra (porsche little bit!)i can actually facelift the car to 04 spec, and/or add GT3 kit (minus the dining table on the engine of course.)

Would rhis be a negative for re-sale (Porsche bodyshop doing work)

Yes or no?

I say do it, I'm a much bigger fan of the facelifted 996 look.

No idea about resale however.

IMO...best to leave the car looking as it was (pre-crash ). Easier to punt at re-sale time.

Yep, I'd walk away from a facelifted 3.4.

It would make me wonder if it had been through a much bigger smash and required a total front end rebuild.

Your points are valid, however i do prefer the look of the facelifted (as do many middle aged females!)
i have photographed the damage from all angles and would provide with car should i ever sell on....after all i'd need to feel comfortable myself that it was effectivley a 'long scrape' rather than a shunt. Would this alter your thinking?

I prefer the facelifted look too, but personally I wouldn't buy an 'updated' 996, I'd either buy a pre or post facelift model. All in my opinion you understand, but I think you'd put off prospective buyers, notwithstanding photographic evidence of the damage. But at the end of the day, it's your car and you should do what you like.

Further to my last:
Bearing in mind that 2/3 years down stream the car will be 10 years old and all those interested, will be looking for condition, warranty/service life?

And of course it is a Tip Cab4, so hairdressers will be all interested in image?

Bottom line? Leave it as porsche intended. Updating the looks of the car smacks of an unhappiness in it ,like it wasn't good enough.. That's not something you'll need hanging around your neck when you go to sell.

You have a point, but of course i'm not unhappy with it; it's just a case of opportunity;

insurance ends up funding 80% of cost, essentially all i end up buying is a new wing and light.

It's not as if i've sought out a deliberate upgrade.

Anyway you've given pause for thought, many thanks.

I'll post pics of my final decision pre and post inadvertant 'heel/toe' incident for anyone interested.

Rereading what I said yesterday .. sorry if it came over harsh!!There is NO doubt that the 04 spec is far prettier , I hope to upgrade some day .
Having said that , ask yourself , if you were in the market for a 964 and were offered one with a re-modeled 993 front , would you go for it?

Anyway reading the doom & gloom surrounding 996's, they'll be same money as a mondeo soon!!

Although the day a mondeo costs over 80K new; or creates the feelings of joy/envy/admiration i'll be long underground, or probably by then; recycled!
