Re-mapping

I'm taking my 993 C4 in to get new brake pads and a couple of other bits done. As it's 10 years old I thought the engine might have lost some of it sparkle (although seems OK to me) and I have heard you can have the engine re-mapped. Does this mean you have the engine management chip replaced or is there more to it? I did a search for engine mapping on the forum and I'm still not sure.

Also if you do re-map the car will it be detrimental to the engine in anyway?

If the engine is running fine you don't need it remapped for health reasons.

Some engine remapping is a new ECU, sometimes a different programme on the same chip, sometimes a 'piggyback' chip that manipulates the standard chip. Don't worry about that; only do it because you fancy a little bit more performance (maybe 15bhp extra on a 993).

i talked to jzmachtech and after seeing the good work they have done for other poeple I'm going to take the car there. If my other bits dont cost too much I'll get the re-mapping done as well. thanks

Make sure that the remapping doesn't tie you into always having a particular specialist look over your car. If the job is done right, standard diagnostic tools should work as normal after the mapping is done.
