Question about 997S and servicing

Saw my dad's lovely new 997S when we were back in the UK last week (still won't let me drive it despite now being 30 and old enough for the insurance company ), but I was puzzled by something the OPC told him when he bought it. According to the guy who handed it over, they don't need servicing for the first two years, which struck me as a little odd - surely one would want to replace the oil after the engine run-in period is done with?

Also, anyone else with one ever noticed the rear brakes smelling a little? That asbestos-type smell you get with a fried clutch or after the brakes have had a good workout.

one would but it is not a Porsche recommendation

I agree - My M3 required an oil change after it was run in, and an oil change after a year is often recommended on some lot of cars, but the 911 handbook / brochure clearly states that no servicing is rquired for the first 2 years

I have a 04 996TT and that is the same, service every 2 years. Mine is due for its first service in march.

If it were my car, I'd change the oil every 6 months.

Can't help but think the accountants are increasingly ruling the roost at Porsche - make them cheaper, make more of them, make the service intervals longer.
