Just renewed my car insurance.....

....so thanks to everyone who suggested places to try.
Ended up with Peart in the end, cheapest by quite a way but also best policy.
Have been with Liv & Victoria for over 5 years now (no claims) & they were 50% higher on premium & refused to budge, even when I said I would stay with them if they got near to (not beat) Peart but no, they seem happy to flush good money down the toilet. So their loss.

havent tried peart but did that www.confused.com thing and the best deal for me, 3rd year running was norwich union direct. but the weird bit was that applying online or through confused.com gave me a quote £60 cheaper than the NU renewal notice. Bizzarre!
according to your profile, you have a Bugatti Veyron so I've got no appropriate advice re: insurance
However for Porsche, LV used to have a very competitive policy 2 years ago and before, favouring Porsches and allowing many mods free of charge. I guess they got stung with a couple of large losses and changed their policy, this was around November 2004 (as they stitched me up around that time). They appear to be avoiding the Porsche business at the mo.
I've always had consistent and competitive quotes from Privilege, though this may be down to more than 7 years of continuous renewals with them, however I've now left for a classic policy given my car is old enough to qualify.
As usual, it's hard to quantify, but the benefit of the internet price comparison engines (i.e. get the lowest price quote) has to be balanced against the insurance firm in question's customer service record. After all, you're only contact with them is either paying for your yearly renewal or making a claim. A tenner cheaper policy but a nightmare claims process (and potential non-payout) is false economy. A few unfortunate PHers on this forum have stacked their cars in the last year or so, and should be able to give advice on which insurers or brokers gave a great claims service.
There are a couple of PHers here in the insurance industry as well, hopefully they'll chip in.
