One year out

Quick question: am thinking of changing (again), this time to a 996 C4 cab. Am dealing with a reputable independent, car has all paperwork, looks in great condition, etc, etc. Trouble is, a friendly OPC salesman did a chassis number check on the Porsche database for me, turns out that according to Porsche the car has a delivery date of Feb 2003, but all the independent's papers say it was registered in March 04, it has an 04 plate and even the V-5 says it was registered in Mar 04. Can anyone explain thsi one-year discrepancy?

The chassis number will confirm what the build year is. Sounds like it may have been sitting around for a while before it was registered.

12 months is a long time though for a Porsche to have been sitting around.

Thanks; isn't that 'sharp practice' by the dealer, trying to pass off an 03 car as an 04?

Was the car delivered to the UK? Could be a right-hand drive delivered somewhere else in 2003 and imported to the UK in '04.

Or am I barking up the wrong tree....

It was imported into the UK; sounds like it was brought over and was in a showroom for sometime before being registered. Surely it's a Trades Description violation if the dealer advertises the car as 04 and it's really an 03??

Does the V5 state the car is new at first registration? This might give you a clue as to whether the car has been imported or not?

the indie has shown me the V5 and it says 'date at first registration in teh UK 02-03-04'. I am going to try and find out the original dealer who sold it new. I've even wondered if this is a case of the OPC trying to denigrate the indie?
