Anyone got any advice on good car cleaning & protection products to use?

Also, is it worth buying a specialist product for the hood of my Boxster(e.g. Autoglym's Fabric Hoof protection kit)?

Cheers

Zymol is allegedly the best for Porsche paintwork.

It costs about 40 quid and smells like bananas

Takes a bloody age to put on. Allow half a day! But then you only need to apply it every 6 months or so.

Zymol is great use it on my cars, starter packs are £95-£110...wash,pre-wax cleaner & wax...You sort of have to buy the pack at first to wash & get the old stuff off before you apply the good canuba wax.Smells are amazing, cocoa butter, chocolate, banana etc..you have to apply with your hands.it will definitely make your wife / girlfriend jealous if not a little worried.

i ordered mine direct from www.zymoluk.co.uk...
they are v helpful,,there are all differnt types one that is about £1500 a tub !!!
The stuff is canuba wax white is hard, yellow makes it shine, there are different types & prices.
I chose the titanium kit which is a harder wax,the theory it should resist stone chips, particularlu useful if you do track days.
I don't think you can get it from halfords but the website should give you a list of suppliers if that has changed.

Santa should be bringing me some Incero stuff next week (they advertise in Porsche Post) - I'll let you know how I get on.

So Zymol's the stuff for the bodywork, but don't forget the hood. I use Fabsil available from camping shops (some recomend Thompsons waterproofer avaiulable from B&Q but I've not tried it) Much cheaper than Autoglym or Renovo stuff and probabaly better. Buy the brush on stuff not the aerosol spray it is easier to get it on cleanly. I do both the Griff and the Spider once a year. Doesn't seem to mark the paint work although obviously try to keep it off and Bob's your father's brother. Rich...

You can get a limited range of Zymol products in the larger Halfords.Another product that is much cheaper and also contains a high percentage of Carnuba Wax is Race Glaze.I have used it on my Flatnose with great results.

What about cleaning the hood, should I use anything special or is it OK to use normal car shampoo?

As regards the hood material I don't really wash it that often, on the basis that it's either folded or it's raining, and in any case the rain washes the dirt off when it’s up! I do give the rear glass (plastic) a clean with the chamois and an occasional polish. When I do give the hood a wash I just use car shampoo but do remember to proof it afterwards, as this will probably make the fabric more porous. Rich...

It's canvas, so you can probably use barbour jacket top-up wax on it. Never bothererd when I had my 944 cab. Just gave it a shampoo now and again.

Don't worry, you'll get bored of polishing the car after thye first six weeks Just hang on until week 7 and you won't care about stuff like this

Don't doubt it Dom, but I like to kid myself on that I'll still be polishing it in a few months
