How young is too young for a 996
Discussion
You might as well buy whatever you can afford. Be it a boxster/996/997/AMV8/House/Boat/car as when like you, your girlfriend starts talking about a ring she's probably going to end up with half of everything or all of it anyway.
Who cares how old we are if we work hard enough for our money and in my case maybe yours nothing has been given to you. Well f*** the older people who may have a bad opinion. I have a lot of respect for all my elders just wish they had the same me.
Buy what you want, then its all the reason you need in my eyes.

That question can't be answered without an idea of your finances, plans and goals.
If you're earning a million a year and made a telephone number bonus last year, one's thoughts may be different from if you make £50k a year.
Also your goals and plans.
If you are building a business, it may be the wrong time etc etc.
The money always has an opportunity cost - weigh it up - and factor in the above.
Circa £30k today in a car will probably cost you say £2k per year running costs and £3k per year depreciation. The same invested could make you £2k per year (depending on all sorts of things). Difference £7k overall.
Get the car if the money is relatively low value. I wouldn't get it if its high relative value compared to your net worth/earnings etc.
Just my 0.02
Ajit.

Agree - some people have other priorities before spashing out on nice cars. Houses, business, family, other debts.
Its usually only later on in life after the 'normal' priorities have been acheived that an extra such as an expensive car can be considered.
If I 'blew' a lot of money on a porsche but could not pay my mortgage then Im a fool. When at uni I walked everywhere instead of getting the bus. Over 3 years I had saved enough to have a return flight to HongKong. Did I get wet and cold - sure but I had a super hol at the end of uni and strong legs.
Different people have different priorities. There is no age limit on whats right or wrong.
I would say that there are lots of other cars which will offer lots of fun building up to owning a nice car such as a 996 and not sacrifice too many other life priorities.
What i would say is dont get the cab, all my cars upto now have been and people probably do think there a poseur's car. But i was young and thought they were a cooler car, now iv seen the error in my ways. I had the 997 cab and thought it was crap at high speeds(over 70 but not in uk), i thought it was just too noisy. I want to start doing track days and wouldnt fancy going round one in a cab.
I think coupe's have a little bit more respect from outsiders than cabs so at least they would be happy.

I meant to add that for what its worth, I'd say that your "toys" shouldn't be worth more than 25% of your income and at a maximum, be worth 5% of your total net worth.
All imho and depending on your goals etc

Interesting formulas those - if you follow that you will be very safe. I would argue that these are very conservative figures. If by "toys" (when related to cars) you mean a car that is not relied upon for daily transport, but is extra to your actual requirements, you are probably spot on. For an everyday car, most people can afford something worth about 50% of their gross income.
Getting back to the subject - go for it if you want one and can afford it. I had to sell my porsche when other more important priorities came along, so enjoy it while you can. A 996 isn't an obvious choice for a young man with a bit of money, so good on yer for having some taste!
You can obviously afford it (whether that be cash or finance) or you wouldnt raise the question. I think it is a big part of a persons life to achieve goals! If owning a 996 is a goal of yours then do it, whats the worst that can happen - it costs you a few bob, at least you can say you did it and it was right for you at that time!!!
I dont see what age has got to do with it - If I could have bought my car when I was 25 I bloody well would have done!!!

Do it. I don't know about any of you lot but I haven't been sent a ticket with my expiry date on yet, maybe it's lost in the post.
Trying to justify things with %'s of your net worth is a little bit crasy.
Maybe I'll engrave it on my tombstone; Spent 85% of net worth on enjoying himself
Buy the 993TT though otherwise you may have to make that 25%

Sorry I dont agree, but then I wouldnt cos if I followed your rules above I'd never have had the toys I wanted...
These things can be much more to someone than just a possession or a toy, whats wrong with spending all your money on a flash motor if thats what really really floats your boat...?
(As long as you arent denying yourself the ability to live, eat, drink etc in order to fund your obsession, obviously).
