100,000 miles too much?

I know they say that mileage isnt an issue in 996s, but surely there must be a limit?

Theres one i have my on, the price seems to be ok at £25k, but with 100,000 miles on the clock... (its a 97 plate)

What are peoples views? What sort of things should I be wary of and factor in to the cost in terms of future servicing and so on?

I don't think you'll be able to get a Porsche warranty with that mileage. I can't remember the exact limit.

Is it a facelift with 100k on it? That's a *lot* for a car that's only 3-4 years old.

Whats better 100,000 motorway cruised miles or 35,000 stop start thrashed round town miles...

I think the answer is in the attention to servicing etc and on condition of the rest of the motor - I would have thought 100,000 on a 996 would be a walk in the park...!?

Mike, its not a facelift - that would have suggested i had in parts made my mind up in what im after!!

It's a 1997 model, so it's 9 years old, 11,000 miles per year. That is average mileage, not high, not low.

Of course, my mistake. I'll whack "learn to read" on my list of things to do this week.

edit: it's still about to fall outside the OPC warranty though, on age if not mileage.

I seem to recall there was a decent dark blue 996 with 75k miles on, that went for about £23k or similar? It was advertised on PH, as well as elsewhere. I seem to recall it had the PSE on it too.

And is there a difference between a porsche warranty, and a porsche specific waranty that is not administered by porsche?

100 K miles, don't worry, I bought my 2.5 boxster in 97 by now I have covered 220.000 miles. And the car still goes strong, does not use any oil, no breakdowns. Just replaced fuelpump and alternator. Porsche are build to last (at least if treated with respect)

you can renew the warranty (or take one out) before the car's 9th birthday. That's exactly what I'll be doing with my 1997 993tt.

Cars with that kind of mileage i think need to come from a low amount of owners so you can believe that it has been well looked after and easier to believe when they say all motorway miles? What you reckon?

There are a number of cars sub 100k on the PH classifieds section, for around the 25k mark. Have a dig through.

One other thing that drives me nuts about facelift models is the re-siting of the digital speedo so that you can't see it. Which is a shame, because you can't see the analogue speedo either.

You've really got it in for the facelift! Never have problem seeing the digi read-out on mine. I suggest taking a pre- and then a post-facelift for a spin. You will notice the difference (and I don't mean cup-holders, glove box)....

I'm sure I would notice the difference. For me, the price increase isn't worth it. Although a glovebox would be nice. 300bhp is already enough to endanger myself and others

Yes - but don't expect to get anywhere near private sale price for it. You may even struggle to get p/x price for it, unless they are pretty sure they can offload it quickly.

I'm trying to shift my S2000 to finance a 993 purchase but zero interest so far. I called the local dealer to see what they might offer. The price was shocking - a good grand less than the Parkers p/x price for average condition, even though mine is in very good condition.

In short, a last resort, I suspect!
