maybe its based on the old 944 sunroof, so you could take the whole section out and reduce the weight....

When i first saw the official pics i just thought this car would be so incredible...

now its starting to look a bit so so, real shame.

Not happy about this sunroof option....Mk1 CS 996's are looking really rather interesting...

Isn't Porsche just giving customers choice? If you don't want it, don't spec it. The new GT3 is bound to be a fantastic car, regardless of whether or not it has the option of a sunroof.

My advice is not to spec one. My turbo came with one as standard and I wish to hell it didn't. The damn thing rattles and has already been replaced once. Then of course there is the more important issue of structural rigidity......

The pillock reponsible for making this a GT3 option at Porsche should be dragged into Stuttgart Town Square and given a bloody good kickin!

To be honest I don't think structural rigidity would be lost as it is only a thin sheet of steel as opposed to a framed opening.... But the weight????

..and you have to pay (a lot) for the sexy bucket seats that were std on Mk1/2. Unless I read that wrong.

Also, the Mk1/2 GT3's have no sound insulation between rooflining and roof - if they are offering a sunroof presumably there must be insulation needed, so more weight again.

I am at a loss to Porsches thinking on this.... Surely the whole point is a range of cars.... and you select which one suits your needs and what you want from the driving experience....

General perceptions seem to be

A Boxster for the cheaper, open top, 2 seat sportsmobile (dare I even think about mentioning the opposite sex... sorry, cringe).

The Cayman?? err... haven't made up my mind on this one....

The 911 - the top of the range (carrera GT excepted) a model to suit every need from the daily driver right through fast road eating turbo to the hard edged track focussed GT3/GT3RS.

As there was already a 'comfort' GT3 for the Mk1/2 series why the hell are they stuffing in more soft options??? Someone at Porsche has missed the point in my opinion...

Oh, forgot the Cayenne - for those with the caravan, the multi-coloured small pony grazing at the side of the road, and seventeen snotty-nosed kids in tracksuits. (jjr1 - that was meant to be a tic joke BTW).

I have an order in for one but am becoming increasingly worried that this car is just a slightly faster version of mine and not the hardcore/sports version it should be.

GT Purely Porsche are doing a "first drive" report in their next issue, I think. That's out on the 9th of March.
