If you're going to use the Zymol claybar, make sure you keep the paintwork well-lubricated with the Field Glaze solution. If you don't, you risk getting streaky clar smears or, worse, scratching the paintwork.

I used Zymol before I decided to give Zaino polish a try. The one thing not in the instructions which I found made life easier was applying the wax using your fingers rather than the applicator supplied. Your body heat helps warm the wax and makes it easier to apply.

HD Cleansing is hard work and a right PITA, but it's essential and will provide the base for a lovely smooth shiny finish.

Like any polish or wax, it's ultimately about how much time and elbow grease you're prepared to invest in applying it.

Unless you have a big garage with heating and serious lighting, I would have said its too cold this time of year to apply Carnauba?
I recall the spec suggests minimum temperature of 16 deg C.

I'm sure I'll be corrected by some of the professional detailers.......

I thought if the carnauba was warmed in my hands before applying then I could zymol once the temp. was above 5-6c??
I need to get a few layers on as the stone chips are breaking my heart (Irish roads!) I know the protection is limited but I've no interest in the laminate protections.

How will a soft wax, zymol or any other, protect against stone-chipping?

Secondly, a 'natural' wax like Zymol will not have good durability on a car that's used often, as clearly yours must be if you are concerned about numerous stone-chips? In a wet climate like Ireland, on a car that is being used often a 'synthetic' would seem more appropriate?

For 'show' a natural is hard to beat IMHO. I don't use Zymol but something else. There is no doubt in my mind that for show cars these give the warmest shine. However, the shine is not as durable. The best balance between shine and durabilty that I have found is 'Zaino'. Sure, it is expensive and far more time consuming to apply than a carnauba. Also, the shine can appear a little 'sterile'especially on darker colours...but it lasts longer.

To improve the 'warmth' of shine you can put a carnauba on top as a final layer. That's what I did on this car (sold last summer):

www.bmwclassics.co.uk/blue740i/index.html

As I re-call, doing this car took me about 40 Man-hours.

The problem with this is, if you then want to put further layers of Zaino on you are 'back to square one' again! ie. you'll have to re-wash the car again with washing up liquid to remove ALL product and start again. The Zaino will not bond to the carnauba layer.

Either way I don't think either will protect you from flying stones!
