Car blew up whilst on motorway.

has been diagnosed as "intermediate shaft" problem ? Apparently nut on end sheared off and the shaft went through through the engine casing ;(

Anyone heard of this or similar ?

Main issues is what needs replacing ? Should i be pressing for a completely new car as it's just over a year old and done 7k miles.

This is a common reason for engine failures on boxsters and 996 engines. Porsche usually replace the engine. checkout the rennlist.com forums.

Sorry to hear about your trouble.

I'm sure Porsche will look after you. Just make sure they give you a decent replacement whilst they fix it up good as new....I got a Toyota Avensis - oh the shame of it....

Bloody Finns.

Having said that, isn't the engine still made in Germany ?

How can this be possible 5/6 years after the model came out, although obviously the 2.7 or 3.2 engine is newer than that.

No wonder the Tiv pilots are on here giggling all the time.

The inter shaft is a problem area, the bearings fail, shafts break and it usually totals the engine if the problem is not caught in time. Settle for a new engine from your OPC provided that it is done in a reasonable time frame, there is nothing wrong with the rest of your car so they could not be liable or obliged to do any more.
