How much was it to fit X50 to a 996TT - after the event?
Discussion
Guys,
I had my 996TT pre-X50. I now have a 997TT coming - and X50 (or "S" spec.) won't be an option for quite a while.
In order that I can get a ballpark idea - how much did it cost to add the X50 power-kit to standard 996TT's as an aftermarket add-on? So I can factor this in.
Thanks!

I believe from memory the 996 TT with X50 pack was about 5k more than the Turbo S model so I would imagine ordering a 997 Turbo S would save you money in the long run. You do run the risk of them not making the car but following previous trends I cant see that happening.
Anyone ordered a 997 Turbo S (or GT2)??????????

First year or so of 996 turbo production the X50 pack was not available.
When introduced the X50 cost about £8,600 as an option.
Towards the end of 996 turbo production porsche launched the Turbo S as the only 996 turbo available. The car has the X50 pack and PCCB as standard and works out at about £5k cheaper than previously buying a turbo and individually speccing X50 and PCCB.
Back to he original query of retrofitting the X50 option, I'm not sure there would be much point financially in doing this. IMHO best course of action once out of warranty for a 996 would be to get a pair of the larger K24 turbos (as used in the X50 and GT2), and add in a remap with a sports exhaust. Then either when the engine is out or when the clutch goes replace it with the uprated X50/GT2 clutch.
I imagine a similar course would be the best way forward for an early 997 turbo owner who wants more power if and when an X50 option is launched, ie buy in larger turbos, sports exhaust, remap etc and uprate the clutch as above.
