Leatherette and Alcantara is the basic option, but it's not as crap as it sounds. The alcantara is actually rather nice and hte leatherette is nicer than the leather found in most non-porsche wheely things out there. Alternativly the option for somone who doesn't fancy sitting on a dead animal.
Alcantara is not 'poverty spec' at all - on seats it will hold you better (you don't slide around) - it is lighter than leather - and as another poster has already said, it gets neither hot nor cold. Clubsport versions of GT3's,GT2's will have partial alcantara or full alacantara on their seats and panels - says it all really. (I have full leather btw, so I'm not trying to defend it ...) :-)
"povery spec = poverty servicing" - yea ok - if that's your opinion, just because you didn't want to waste money on unnecessary options, doesn't mean you skimped on servicing... Maybe they wanted to 'drive' their Porsche rather then show off their Porsche logos on their tyre valves ... :-S
