997 TT waiting lists falling!

I deposited on a 997 TT in June 2004 and last week was told to expect the car mid-2007, however I have just had a call to say that it can be a 2006 car if I put down the 10k by Tue.

Apparently this is a combination of a) the 10k forcing a lot of people out of the queue and b) an increased allocation. Interesting...

Was just about to run out and buy a 996 TT - now what?!

I know so many people (myself included) who just can't come to terms with those p*ss taking b***ards at PORSCHE demanding ten grand deposit for an 07 delivery to current new car owners.

Yep my mate (who posts on here) just told them to off after they asked for £10k for delivery "in about 2 years" crazy !

Many dealers are expecting orders placed now to be fulfilled in around 12 months (eg. Nottingham)... which surprises me.

My dealer seems to think that there going to let the earliest customers decide when they want there car.

... and some dealers are telling customers that they have to place their £10k before 28 Feb (I have been given 5 days notice to pull together £10k or else I lose my place in the queue despite them sitting on £1k for nearly 2 years - lucky I wasn't on holiday!), with other dealers saying that customers can't place their £10k until 28 Feb (with a 3-4 week window to do so).

What evidence do you have of "an increased allocation" please ?

My dealer told me that they were going to get more cars than originally anticipated... as a part explanation for the fact that my *expected* delivery date has been brought forward to 2006 from mid-2007.

After 35yrs in the motor trade,the above means Less Orders, Not more cars.
Pro'bly be able to get a discount later in the year!!

My local OPC has my cheque for £10k - it needed to be post dated to the 28th(apparently they cant accept cheques before the official launch date). They've had my £1k place holder deposit since Feb'02 at which time I was 5th in their Q for the new 997TT.

The OPC woulnd't tell me if any of the folks in front of me have dropped out- however the indicated that I'll probably get July-Sept delivery slot.

Your frustration is understandable.
I presume that P. are doing this to clear out some of the speculators, car dealers and other scum who race to the head of the queue and use "The Old Pal's Act" to get cars before genuine and committed users are able to do.
Just look at all the Caymans and CGTs that came onto the market from riff-raff who never intended to drive the car a single mile before flipping it. And you can bet your last penny that the same will happen with GT3s and RSs, whilst people like you have to wait for later deliveries.
I don't know about the 997TT, but previously P. have paid interest on deposits, so it was not like they were grabbing your money just to nick the float.

You can argue that this way of trying to discourage speculation is ineffective, but it's understandable why P. and other carmakers would use it.
If this is the only means of reducing the number of lowlifes who take cars ahead of real customers, perhaps we should be more tolerant of it.
