Why is 997 TT Tip faster than manual?

So the stats say that the 997 TT Tip is faster than the manual (3.7 -v- 3.9 secs to 62). Why is this given that the Tip 'box is effectively an auto 'box with manual override (unlike BMW's great SMG or Ferrari's great F1 'boxes)?

Also - some posts on this forum have said that this is because they have adopted VW's DSG (double clutch) technology. This is NOT the case - there WILL be a (probably awesome) DSG-equivalent 'box coming along in 18 months or so, but this is NOT the Tip 'box.

I am expecting to spec my car in next 3 months or so - and would love the DSG but it won't be here in time. I would normally never consider a Tip - but the fact that it is faster and more economical has me intrigued...?

I recommend you wait for the DSG.

You are right initial launch is a regulare tip for the first 12 - 18 months. I feel the performance figures are questionable, but possible because the manual figures are so often achieved with abuse. Tip 997TT's will be worth 5K less than a DSG box in about 3 years. Just a no brainer to me. I love tip but will wait for the DSG.
