With the colder weather upon us obviously I needed to replenish dwindling supplies for the open fire Carreraboy...hardly worth starting a thread on it though?

Johnny....I had a brief excursion in Carreraboys very nice 64RS, down my private bumpy B road test track Very nice car with hot film & G pipe pushing out approx 300bhp.

I made the remark that on a 0-130mph dash it was probably quicker than a standard 93RS!

Not a huge revelation considering the 64RS is a lighter car. Carreraboy in his exuberance has taken my comment to infer " you should enter the car for Le Mans, you would definitely win!"

Still, a very impressive car Des and thanks for the opportunity

Probably not faster than a 993RS to 130 since IIRC 130mph would mean 4th gear in the 964 and cf 4th in the 993RS 6spd the 964 just dies. To be fair there wouldnt be much in it.

Tony 130 was mentioned because the 64RS did not pull so well on the change to 5th beyond that....and it was a very bump private test track
93RS would have felt more composed over the same road....but I doubt any faster....
I did own a 93RS used on road & track for a few years, so I didn't base comments from reading tha back pages of carmags

Shame that so many people on this forum seem to do exactly that!

Well I guess we agree that the 6spd G50/32 box makes the difference but for me the difference starts as the 5spd shifts into 4th although the effect of the shift into top would be magnified.

The only experience I have the difference is running both gearboxs in the same car and have been in the posistion of running up through the box against both 964RSs and 993RSs before and after the change on many occasions. I don't know whether this matches the depth of your experience or not and I'm not sure I've disparaged your opinion.
Exactly how you could glean this information from the back of car mags is beyond me. Perhaps I don't read them carefully enough.

Bergmeister, It was one of those of those comments I made in passing, you are right I should be more careful with Des...he hears an idle remark, takes it out of context and is already planning to put the quote on a T shirt or possibly a tattoo!

Tony,,,if you get the chance drive a 993 RS....The gearbox is certainly one aspect to consider, but the standard catted 993 3.8 lump and the 964RS decatted, hot filmed 3.6 deliver their 300bhp in different ways....Or so it felt to the seat of my pants

I'm sure your correct in your assesment in the way the 2 cars you mention produce their power. My experience of the 993RS is limited to one pax ride I'm afraid but I've more experience of the 964RS and then there's my own car. It's interesting to compare the dyno traces of the 993RS, my own 964 ( which sounds similar spec to Des's) and 964RS in various states of tune including motec ( which is a a bit of a giveaway) as the 3.8 varioram makes noticably more midrange torque/power. I guess a lighter 964RS with a peakier engine would feel a little more lively than a 993RS although ultimatly the 993 would edge it, but as I said before there wouldn't be much in it.
A couple of years ago I followed a standard 993RS around Oulton for several laps and while there was no noticable difference in corner speeds he pulled a literally a few yards on me on every straight and I suspect Des's car would be in a similar posistion. Driver ability is likely to make a bigger difference though

Edited to add I may have misinterpreted the tone of the car mags bit as my PC software isnt allowing smilies to apologies for the slightly arsey reply above
