997 rear spolier

I have read the mags and cannot find out why,when and how the rear spolier
operates on the 997.
can you have it permanantly up or down or does it automatically come up at a certain speed

Just drove one on Friday.76 mph and she comes up!But there is a button so you can stop that happening...

The button makes the spoiler come up at any speed. It does not lower it as that is something you can't do once you exceed its raise speed until you slow down.

Otherwise it comes up at something like 75mph and drops at 35mph.

It has been used before in evidence. I don't know if it was a succesful prosecution.

But to give you a clue mine is 'up' all the time for this very reason.

How can that be used as any evidence? Let them try and prove that you didn't raise it manually before you set off on your journey.

Similar argument with the Cayman. Automatically raises the spolier at 75mph, but again you can push the button to DIY (and who's to say you didn't?)

Ah, I didn't notice the button on my test drive....

I've just had a call from my dealership - my car is now with them being prepared, and I can pick it up on Saturday

Is it possible to see the spoiler in the rear view mirror when raised. I have no idea if the spoiler on my 997 "works"

No chance you can't see it but if you want to check just click the button and drive past a shop with a reflective front. Or failing that get out the car and check it

okeydokey, so I can see if it goes up and down manually but if I want to see it working at 75mph + I would have to let my wife drive and follow her.... hmm on second thoughts, i'll just trust porsche engineering...

Thats right. I have never seen my mine work at 75mph+ butthe car held the road at 189mph so it must be okay

How stable did it feel at that speed?

It's sometimes 'fun' on the approach to a roundabout/junction to glance in the mirror at the bloke in the car behind. He'll usually be pointing out your spoiler going down to his bored looking female passenger. (Beware, this is usually followed by you making a complete balls up of the roundabout/junction because you weren't watching where you were going.)

Not too bad. A wind would occasionally catch the front and make it wander a little but it was easily contained in one lane. Braking from that speed was amazing as the brakes never grumbled despite doing it repeatedly for hours on end.
