Brake pad changing

Hi all..

I changed the brake pads on my 944 this weekend but am a little concerened.. did porsche cange the thickness of the pads/discs post 1984? I found some proper early pads - still got asbestos in them! I fitted these but they were vrey very tight (hammer job).. to the point where i couldn't get the hub to rotate without the wheel on... The pads dont have the slot for the wear sensor so i just didn't fit this..

I drove into work this morning and the disc got relatively hot, not smoking, glazed style but hot to touch.. the journey is only about 6 miles.. Am i going to wreck my brakes with this binding, have the pads changed and thus have i fitted the wrong ones..

Any help... please!

Doesn't sound ideal. Were the pistons fully retracted?

Wearing a mask, file some of the material away until they slide in nice and easy. Alternatively take em back to the shop and get some pads that fit.

Hmmm,

Don't forget the 944 has that funny steel insert in the calliper that gets muck under it and interferes with the fitting of the pads. You may have enough space for the thickness, but it is the length of the slot that has become shortened by the muck and corrosion build up.

No doubt a 944 boy will be along in a minute to dish out the correct terminoligy and they exact method of cleaning and checking but you are currently ruining your discs and pads running around with jammed pads that you have hammered in.

They should be able to slide back and forth with the pistons as and when you shove your size 10's on the pedal.
