Discs and Pads replaced. Blimey!

Just got all round discs and pads and a brake fluid change.
Blimey!
1) My arse is still sore - despite having got a decent parts and labour deal from Northway Porsche.
2) It feels as though there is a brick underneath the brake pedal.
3) When I brush the brake gently its like someone threw a large anchor out the back of the car.
At least putting up with (1) above has generated (2) and (3). Nice.

Hehe - comedy!
BTW, next time do the pads and fluid yourself.. it is very straight forward and not very time consuming(really). You can then just get the parts from the OPC and you endure much less of (1) but still get (2) and (3)

A very easy job, the hardest part is getting the jacking the car up and taking the wheels off!

Just wondered how long brakes last on Boxster S / 996. Had mine one year, done about 5000 miles and two trackdays. Disc's and pads have loads of meat left on them and I've been told the disc's might need replacing when it goes for it's service next month.
If my chair didn't have arms I'd have fallen of it

My discs and pads were three years old. 20,000 miles. Lots of track days...say fifteen at least?
And I really use the brakes - right up to the limit - hard as I can.
My OPC told me: "Oh Mr Hughes. The discs should be skimmed and the pads replaced in the next ten thousand miles. Would you like us to do it?"
No!
Got Northway to replace the lot. Yes more expensive - but the ridges on the outside of the discs were like Mount Everest - I was NOT convinced that thinner discs and track days were a good combination. OPC were trying to save me money - but I achieved a similar price and got a better result by using a reputable independent.
And, given how great the car feels now, and the convenience of a smaller outfit in a better location (for me) who do work to the same quality as an OPC, Northway will be getting more of my business in the future.
