Cheap supplier of Pagid RS29s
Discussion
Likewise - disc time for me too. Pre-Bedford, discs were showing only 2mm cracks... they are now 5mm... managed to melt the oem pad sensors as well. I understand with the RS29s the sensors are cut and taped up as the sensors are just plastic (melt nicely at 450deg C!)

A little OT, but I just got off the line with JZ enquiring about the Mk2 6pots + anti-rattle Alcons (gen2) + RS29s + SRF + brake lines...

Last time I asked I got quoted £2,379.97 inc or £2,627.43 fitted.
In the event I got a set of s/h callipers, RS29's from Performance Braking (cheapest I found) and a set of Alcons from Glenn M (see PH classifieds)- got the fluid and lines already. Saved about £950.00. Yet to fit as I am still wearing out my standard set up.
I think the key is that they last a lot longer than the std set up on trackdays.
I reckon i'd get through a set of discs (std) in 5-6 or so trackdays (some only 3-4 days but i'm estimating based on my own experience. I tend to do around 10 trackdays per year so am looking at 2-3 sets of discs depending on how i do and how i improve.
A set of mk1 discs is around £400 plus labour to fit.
I understand that the rotors on the floating setup would last me (on the above basis) around 30 or so trackdays. Pad wear should be about the same (although the pads themselves would be much more costly being the mk2 ones rather than the mk1 ones).
Cost wise, its not a million miles apart over time (assuming you keep the car long enough), but i understand that the performance difference is big.
Maybe someone who has them on could comment further.
Ajit.

Because they don't sell them, or they don't make as much profit compared to MkII's or Brembo's?
On the contrary - JZ told me that they normally fit these if the car will be used on road only. Apparently the internal vanes are better and the steel is of a higher grade than the regular Mk1 discs.
However, JZ said that if the car will be used on track, the Motorsport discs will crack just as quickly as the regular discs. They have tried treating the steel in all kinds of ways including cryogenically freezing them etc, but none of the drilled discs last longer than 3-4 track days before cracking again. Hence the recommendation for the Alcons. I had the impression he would be happy to relieve me of the £600 or so for the Mk1 disc+RS29+SRF option if I wanted, but it could be all wasted within 3-4 trackdays.
Of the cost quoted, I was told the labour is only about 3 hours or so, if that.

Bu&&ered if I know mate, they're still in the box!
Sorry missed that bit! Have you driven a MKI with them on tho?
Ajit - I have a MkII but have never driven a MkI on track so can't comment on the difference in brake performance but I have been led to believe the main improvement is fade resistance with the bigger brakes especially if the driver is relatively new to track days.
The downside as far as I can see as someone has already said is the huge increase in the cost of consumables over the MKI parts.

So let's see... given I need new discs, the options are:
1) get Mk1 discs (msport or not), new pads/fluid/lines = £600, and get a new set in July/August: total px £1200 in 2006
2) go the full monty = £2.7k and benefit from better braking on track
JZ said the generation 1 Alcons last about 25-30 trackdays. They haven't had enough experience with the generation 2 Alcons to tell yet.
Will I keep the Mk1 longer than 2 years? Decisions decisions.... ...

Its obvious isn't it - spend the best part of £3k and put the bigger ones on
joking aside bigger brake conversion will make the car more saleable when you do decide to sell it so do it now and get the benefit but you may have to do a treasure hunt for some of that £51 million buried in someones garden

I have concluded from all of this that given my car's a keeper (well, okay, at least for 4 or 5 yrs), i'm going the floating route.
Have bought a set of the old style rattly ones from Glen (like someone mentioned earlier). Saves a fair bit.
Now need some 6 pot calipers (so if anyone has any for sale...) and the pads.
Cheers
