Fire extinguishers and 944s

My 944 turbo has just gone in for a bit of bodywork prior to it's MOT and they've just rung to say that it looks like I've had a small fire in the engine bay as a result of oil leaking from the oil feed to the turbo . Not a major issue they said and to save the budget it's something I'll sort when I do the valve stem guides but they did suggest that I get a small fire extinguisher.

Does anyone know of any decent mounting systems - I been told you can get them to fit on the front underside of the passenger seat. Any idea where to get one and wheter it would work with electric seats ot if there are any better alternatives?

Is this likely to have done any damage to the turbo it's self?

Have seen the Brey Krause mounting braket on the Porsche Shop web site and the Brey Krause quick release holder to fit the braket. It takes an AMerex 417 2.5kg extinguisher - anyone know where these can be found or whether they are a standard size i.e. are there other extinguishers of the same diameter?

If you're over in France at any point, as well as that other stuff that comes in bottles, it's worthwhile picking up a fire extinguisher or two in the supermarkets. It's a lot cheaper there, and judging by the EU certification marks, no worse than the units/mounts sold over here.

Warning! A test in Motor Boat & Yachting a few years ago on fire extingushers was most interesting, 5 failed to put out the test fire & one failed completely. The Winner was a Draper one! I'll see if I can turn it out.

In car extunguishers are mostly useful for aiding exit of a burning car. Once you're aware of an underbonnet fire and have stopped the car and got out with the extinguisher, it's probably too late to put it out without a couple of full size extinguishers at least. Plus you'll probably open the bonnet to try and put it out too, which isn't really a good idea.
If you're really concerned, look at plumbed in systems.

good point 006. I had been thinking that any fire that was ongoing when I pulled to a halt would flare up but it also seemed to make sense to get one for personal safety.

I don't think I'll go down the plumber in route though, just fix the source of the problem. It was an oil leak so it might have been extinguishable.
