I was driving the other halfs 987 'S' last night when I heard the engine making a very bizarre sound. It happened at 38mph in 3rd gear ? If I accelerated slightly it went away, and the same if I slowed down.

I kept taking the car to 38mph & it kept making this horrible noise. I assumed it was somthing at certain revs, however it didn't do it in any other gear at the same speed or the same revs.

I'm baffled, but really hoping it isn't anything.

Does it sound like a rattle snake? Was the car warming up? There is a known rattle at 2100rpm when the engine warms up. Its something to do with a bearing in the oil system being too small. There is a fix.

What sort of revs and what sort of sound?

Is it a metallic metal on metal sort of noise?

The car was warming up & I suspect it wasn't far off 2100rpm (38mph, 3rd gear).

Hard to describe the sound, but I suppose 'snake-ish' could be used.

Is it something that needs looking at or is it just one of those things ?

Snake-ish is how I would describe it yes.

If you call your OPC and tell them you have the 2100rpm rattle they should add you to the list/offer a booking on a time to fix it.

It does not harm the engine (they say!!) but is best to get fixed.
