Help! 996 Window problem

Can any one help with a problem Im having with the electric window on my 2000 996. When I open the door the window drops slightly as it should, but then moves back up once i let go of the handel, so when i shut the door the window catches on the pillar! Its just started at the weekend, anybody got any ideas how to solve the problem? Thanks.

I'm having a similar problem on my 03 Cab.... It's a bit intermittent and I think it depends on whether it's the inside or outside door handle that's used. Mines still under warranty so hopefully can be sorted. Can't help with the fix however - would be interested in the responses myself.

It shouldn't do that.... Yes, I know it's stating the obvious You could try to reset the windows in case it's just got confused.

Turn off all the accessories and leave your key in the ignition on position 1. This stops the the alarm going mad in the next step! Disconnect the battery for a couple of minutes and then reconnect it. Lower the windows manually, keeping your finger on the button and then raise them all the way to the top. This resets the top and bottom positions for the one shot opening and closing.

Not saying it will work as it seems to be getting a spurious signal, but it's worth a try seeing as it's a free fix.

Note:
Make sure you've got all your radio codes etc before disconnecting the battery!!

I had the same problem on my M3 Cab. They replaced the door locks (dont ask me why). It seemed to fix the prblem though. Hope this helps.

Guy - mines booked in for next Thurs......Will let you knoe the outcome. I suspect it's one of the micro-switches in the door handle. Hopefully covered under warranty.

thanks for all the help, tried disconnecting the battery and opening and closing the windows but unfortunately it did not work. car is now out of warranty so guess im looking at a stinger bill if an OPC get there hands on it!

Guy - got mine back today - it seemed to be as Blairout said...... No new switches or anything......The OPC reset the limits using diagnostics....... apparently..! So I guess it shouldn't cost the earth - maybe go to an Indie.......

A free fix is a good fix

Guy, if it does need resetting, use a good indie, not an OPC. The good ones can all get into the ECU anyway and won't rape your wallet either.

try it, it wont work.
