Help! I crave BBS Racing wheels!

Really struggling to source these. I have searched the PH archives, specifically:

The local supplier of BBS wheels in Dubai (same company as Motorsport Wheels in the UK) claims the BBS Racing wheel is magnesium only (therefore not for road use), and the wheel I really want is the BBS LM. Now I am 95% sure this is not the case, as I understand there is a gold BBS Racing wheel in aluminium.
I tried the BBS website, and only found the BBS Trans-Am wheel under the Motorsport section, so I guess that's probably not the one I'm looking for: [url]www.bbs.com/index.php?id=56&L=2[/url]
Can someone direct me to an official website and (better still) a part number, so I can convince my local supplier that this wheel actually exists? It's for a GT3 mk2 (18", 8.5J ET40 and 11J ET63).

Also I think I recall a thread on stuttgart9.co.uk about these wheels.
I think that I reead that the genuine race-spec wheels are 'not suitable for road use' because in a competition environment, they will be regularly checked for minute cracks etc. and there may also be corrosion issues as they may not be laquered so they would quickly look pants after a bit of exposure to salty roads.

BBS DO now make the race wheel with gold centres in aluminium, therefore fine for road use. I have posted pics of these before. I would ring them up in Germany and talk to them. They didn't reply to an e-mail I sent them last year.

That's exactly what I thought, johnny. And yes, I agree, they look the business. Just wish they weren't so difficult to find.
IIRC, I think you posted a number of times on a previous thread asking how much they weighed, and didn't get a satisfactory answer, so I guess I'll just assume they weigh less than factory standard, but more than the mag wheels. That's good enough for me.
Laquered vs unlaquered no big deal for me, since the car lives in a dry, salt-free environment.

No danger of a camel lifting a leg on yer wheel?!?
I'll just have to make sure I don't park next to the mother and camel parking space.

Mr Senna - the aluminium set you talk about are they the same as the set Houlbt had on his RS?
No mate, Tom had Cargraphic split rims. Not my personal faves as they are fairly heavy and the chap who had my car before me broke one of a set at the Ring.

Those are the exact wheels you want. I think they are cheaper if you get them direct from BBS motorsport in Germany.

Agreed JS they're not as light as the BBS rims but I can tell you they are lighter than the original Speedline "road roller" rims
And IIRC BBS have also been known to crack 
The hub/spoke designs were modified by Cargraphic 2-3 years ago and the material they were produced from changed also (Speak to Mark @ Stuttgart Connection for further info)
The centres are available as a forged item at extra cost I believe, so they should be lighter.
The outer rims are now stainless and thus maintenance free.
Also available with gold centres for that authentic BBS race wheel look

Those are the exact wheels you want. I think they are cheaper if you get them direct from BBS motorsport in Germany.
I would make three observations/additions to the Doc's excellent advice.
1. When you buy them direct from BBS motorsport order them lacquered as brake dust will munch into the rims.
2. Don't get the motorsport ones if you intend to drive over the odd pothole/kerb/camel - although the tougher aluminium centre is far more robust than the old mag ones the rims are still very light and not as strong as your standard road wheels.
3. Tell your insurance company. they may not like flimsy expensive motorsport wheels being used on the roads....

Great - thanks for that advice. I have been trying to reach BBS Motorsport in Germany (two emails so far and lots of phone calls) but no response yet. For some reason the phone number on their website goes straight into a call queue, then disconnects. I will certainly drop Herr Gissler a line.

Hmm. Lacquered, unlacquered, lacquered, unlacquered. Now you and Tim have got me confused.
On the pothole front, local roads are pretty smooth, and insurance companies tend not to care too much if your passenger footwell is full of NOS and small boys go after lost footballs down the exhaust. Still, I would be daft not to inform the insurance co.
