Mixing engine oil viscosities?

Hi all

I wondered if anyone knows if its okay to mix engine oil viscosity - eg mixing Mobil 1 0w 40 with some Mobil 1 5w 40 etc etc.

Not thinking of different makes of oil, just different viscosities of mobil 1.

I used to do that with my 993 as I ran out of 0-40, and I only had 15-50. I ran 15-50 during the summer when the 993 also did town duty often sitting in traffic. The car ran fine throughout.

They will mix fine and will give you 2w-45.

Obviously 0w-40 is better for cold months.
