What Porsche for 10k??

Hello all, newbie here although been a user of PH for ages!
Last year I bought and enjoyed a 964 Carrera 2 Targa, & am regretting the sale of it. I had to buy a 'Family car'.
I now have the budget of £10k to buy something for weekends / Le Mans etc.
After ruling out 928's on the grounds I dont own any oil wells to fund ownership I am now looking at 911s & 968s.
Any thought from the experts here?

10k will get you a lowly 911 or a less lowly 968, but not a great one. It would get you a superb 944 of any flavour and with many pounds with which to go to Le Mans with. And it isn't an awful lot different to a 968 - in fact, get a Turbo and it is faster. You could always sell the family car, get a cracking 968 and reflect on the fact that it is sooooo practical that it is actually as good as a family car at carrying families and peripheral accessories!

Californian 912, with 2-3 grand left for upkeep...
Early 911 chic for alot less money, and a well fettled 1720cc 4 will go alot more nicely than you think. Not a car for the salty season, though.
I might be out of date, but for a 964, even with lefty, you are going to get a bit of a munter for 10. 12 or 13 might find you one with a rebuild, and lets face it, a rebuilt 964 is starting to look like a hell of alot of car for the money these days, no?
OTOH I know of a much loved white rhd 964 that has 165k, but a top end rebuild and RUF suspension (and other pricey work). You might be able to prise it out of his grip for 12,taking into account the clutch is apparently breathing its last.

To add, the CS also needed some TLC on the sills & the roof panel was in need of attention. I wouldnt offer bug price for it as it needs 2k+ spent on it.
Almost 10 years on I am still hankering after a 944/68, even if just to be the sensible car to provide respite from the Tuscan
, but the one thing I hate is rust...anything else I can make good, bodywork just looks a mess by the time I've finished with it!
