Having lurked for many months I've finally bitten the bullet and I'm buying a '94 993 C2.

But it seems to be impossible to get the insurance I want.

Trackday, with occasional commuting to work, with g/f on policy.

I'm 33, the g/f is 26.

I've done plenty of trackdays with my Elise so have experience, plus neither of us has points or accidents.

Having spoken to to a couple of specialist brokers I cannot get the g/f insured! (G/f on road only, not trackday).

However, if I go to Elephant / Admiral etc. they're happy to insure the g/f (plus a couple of mates) without so much as batting an eyelid. Happy for it to be parked on road as well.

Surely there must be someone out there that can combine the two? i.e trackday for me and the g/f. (NB is a second w/e car).

Any suggestions appreciated. Plus any ideas why the anomaly occurs?

I had this problem recently. Basically g/f is insured on road no probs, and myself on road and track (for a tiny premium) again no problem. However, g/f not insured on track, even for additional wonga... this is because she is not the main driver and the underwriters consider her inexperience with the car too high a risk on track.

As it was I forfeited the extra track premium on my main policy (would have been about 90 GBP) and went to competition car insurance ( www.competition-car-insurance.co.u ) provided by egger lawson. I have used them many times and they have been great to deal with - best of all they covered myself and the g/f at Bedford for just 75 GBP for the day.

Soooo, get a road policy then just get cci to sort stuff out if you need insuring on track. Unless, of course, people like AON can do cover for both primary and secondary policyholder on road and track.

Try Herts Insurance (www.hertsinsurance.com/)

I renewed with them a few months ago and they were the cheapest and include trackday cover (with a £1k excess if you've done trackdays before or a £2k excess if you haven't)

Not sure what their position is with track cover for additional drivers but I'd give them a call and ask, they seemed very helpful and knowledgeable every time I spoke to them.

Spoken to Herts Insurance Consultants, and I'm now one of their customers!

Seemed knowledgable and they even phone you back when they say they will.

Gave what I felt was a very competitive quote, and managed to fulfill all my criteria. Provided trackday cover for ALL named drivers. (Not that I shall tell the g/f that!)

Further more do not want an amount per event, nor require that they are informed before an event.

All in all thanks very much for the suggestion.

Of course, how good they are in the event of a claim will hopefully not be tested.

That is awesome!

If I didn't like Chris Wilkins at Bickley Insurance so much, I'd be sure to get a quote from them.

Heritage insure my '96 993 on a classic policy with my wife on the policy plus free PCGB track days.

They may insist on it being garaged though and that you have use of another car.
