Boxster/993/964

Looking for a tiptronic boxster, while in doing so as getting desparate placed an advert on 911 website in hoping someone might have a tiptronic for sale.
i know 911s are the business, but was advised for my budget of 19k i should consider getting an older style 964 or 993.
Told boxster prices are just falling and falling and that an 993 just does not compare to a boxster. and would be a better by, realise 911 owners can be biased.
So i now feel confused in limbo land, Ideally i wanted to get a used boxster and take out a porsche warranty, for piece of mind. With the other models the cars would be too old. The reason for a boxster was its a soft top.
Yes the thought of a 911 sounds lovely, but the costs of maintaining an oldone and the price of consumables frightens me.
Any advice appreciated. Still want a tiptronic though

There are some good deals to be had on Boxsters at the moment - not sure for how long tho'. I recently sold one for a mate, and I'm now getting loads of interest, so expect the post winter prices to start firming up.....
Boxsters have lost a fairly large chunk over the last year or so, but I'm sure they'll have to level out soon, as they're to good a car. I can't see them really going for less than £10k - even for the oldest, higher mileage cars. So subsequently the newer 2.7's etc will pro-rata, price wise from there - IMO.
As for an older 911, it really depends on you. If you're looking at soft top, hassle free motoring, then an older 911 is not the way to go. The Boxster is an excellent car, and very user friendly. Personally I'd recommend you go for the best, and latest 2.7 you can find, and try to bag yourself a bargain by going in with a low bid (especially on a tiptronic, as they're a bit less desirable). Whatever, it'll depreciate less than the equivalent new japcr*p over the next couple of years.....

Give em all a test drive , don't be swayed by others opinions (tho it's good to listen) The older 'more revered' cars are not for everyone and it sounds like you're looking for something a little more modern , the warranty is great peace of mind .
If you really fancy a particular model , put residuals low on the list , drive the car , leave the abacus at home!!
