Previous owners data - can u get it?

Is anyone aware of a way that I can acquire a full ‘previous’ owner history for a UK car. Current and previous easy but seems that beyond this you cannot acquire/purchase the data due to ‘data protection’ constraints. Is this correct or can I get this legally some other way?

Also, had a similar issue trying to trace back history of work done on a 993 within OPC network. They were helpful re taking the call but could not and would not provide any on record detail. Again is there any way to get to this another way?

You used to be able to send a fiver to Fee Paying Services of DVLA, Swansea and get back printouts of all microfische records for the vehicle (shows it was a while ago I did it!!). I'd have a look at the DVLA web site or give them a call.
I did this for my MGB and got details of all 7 previous owners. You had to be the current registered keeper of the vehicle to use the service. Also not sure if it would work if there were plate changes.
