Damaged Steering rack

Afternoon all..

I went to an airfield day on Friday with my 1986 944 lux.

Since the day, my steering rack (or something) 'knocks' on approx quarter turn left and right when stationary.. i dont notice it when moving, but i'm not sure its a good thing.

Any ideas as to what may be causing this? Like i say, it sounds like a knock and there is a little feel in the steering wheel.. I'm assuming its the rack, but guess it could be something else...

Any thoughts would be great..

could be anything on the front suspension and steering gear,

you need one person to rock the steering and another to look for play in joints etc.

Sounds similar to a symptom I had in the 924 Turbo.

Turned out to be play in the Steering Bar with the two universal joints, connecting the Wheel with the Rack.
