Sensational drive last night

Maybe the optimax (usually tesco 99), maybe the mood, maybe marilyn manson on the bose, who knows? Last night had to travel to Surrey from Norfolk on business so left ~7ish. Mostly motorways sadly, but quite a few roundabouts on the route I took. Very very light traffic -- and the devil was riding on my shoulder on the M3.
That car (996tt) is the tits.

Yes in most ways it's certainly better. I've either got used to it or it's got used to me or a bit of both. Plus I think it may have been pussied around town by the PO, and whilst I'm not exactly Damon Hill, I do like to try and use the thing, and that's probably cleaned it out a bit.
I'm still sometimes disappointed by the 2000-3000rpm response if I give it too much throttle, after that it's horizon here we come.
The M5 was instantaneous from 2 without a hint of delay. But this is a smaller engine and the turbos will add some delay.
I don't buy this "no perceptible turbo lag" I keep hearing.
Apart from that, the mid corner drive is astonishing especially in the wet. I really don't know where it gets the grip from, and the stability control doesn't seem to curb the fun too much, certainly not compared with the M5s which would completely ruin corners by flashing even before the throttle was applied, making you exit on what seemed like a closed throttle.
It's also a lovely thing to be in too I find myself looking at the wheelarches in the wing mirrors, looking around inside to enjoy that classic 911 sweeping roofline. I understand what people mean now when they say a drive in a 911 is an event.
