Anyone know if there's a list of which Becker Traffic Pro units will fit straight into a pre-MOST bus 996? I know the 7945 does, but not too sure about the other models out there.

Cheers all!

Any HU will fit into a pre MOST car, it is just PCM2 and CDR23 Porsche specific Becker HUs which have optical connections, that won't work.
The 7945 is a great unit (I have one in my X3), but it is just about to be replaced by the Cascade, which is essentially the same unit, but with a variable colour screen, and it stores the navi in a CF card rather than needing to add CDs in etc.
Also, TMC works on the Cascade, but not on the 7945 until the next software release (July time)

The older style Traffic Pro high speed units will work fine, but don't have Bluetooth, and the navi is not as nice to use/detailed/

HTH!

Cheers

I've got the 7945 in two cars incl. the GT3. Great unit. Looks like standard porsche kit so doesnt look out of place or after market.

The sat nav is great. Bluetooth hooks up with your phone. Takes a flash media card - so take your music collection with you too.

ONly gripe is i can't figure out if you can change the colour of the display from yellow to orange.

Ajit.

MOST is the Media Oriented Systems Transport - it's a bus system to connect media devices in a car and transports data in digital form over fibre rather than good old analogue over copper.

Porsche switched from analogue wiring to MOST in the 2002/3 timeframe so your 99 Carrera is analogue over copper.

The majority of aftermarket units (including Becker's) is analogue and will only fit modern Porsches with a costly converter.

Which is totally annoying considering Becker actually make the MOST HUs for Porsche! Why can't they make a damn Sat Nav that I could fit! Grrrr.

Sadly you can't - the Becker Cascade will address this issue as it is a 7945 with 16 colour variable display.

Thanks guys, outstanding help as always, should have one of the 'high speed pro' units fitted by the weekend.

Anyone know how easy it is to find and tap into the speed signal?

...next, a speed trap detector...

Hi,
Afraid not - the CDR23 is an optical unit which means you will need to replace the amplifier too as the one in the car only accepts an optical input which the 7820 doesn't give.

Chris,

So does that mean my car has the MOST system, I didn't know I even had an amp, its only a GT3, no HK sound system?

Assuming that I don't want to change my amp (if I have one) what Becker Sat Nav will be a straightforward install?

Help appreciated.

Thanks

Stuart

Hi Trig
I will double check tomorrow, but it is possible that the GT3s had CDR23 which ran on copper rather than optical and didn't have an external amp, so you might be OK.

The easiest way to tell is to slide out the existing unit and look at the connectors at the back - if they are all 'normal' plugs then you are fine. If there is an optical plug, then it won't work.

The more I think, the more I am sure that GT3s don't have an optical system with external amp, and that they only use the CAN-BUS system to turn the unit on and off as there isn't a switched ignition feed in the loom, so ignition switching aside, you should be fine.

Cheers
