What should I look for when buying a 964?

My mate is ready to buy his first Porsche and he wants a 964. I don't know to much about these babies. Budget upto 15k C2 or C4.

So please peops, what are the common things to look out for on these?

There are a few things which are well-enough documented here (search forum function) and on places like www.porsche964.co.uk , things like oil leaks from the barrels (full rebuilds if the leaks are bad; 4-6k), the mythical dual mass flywheel (hardly any have these fitted 15 years later!), dizzy ozone build up (again, most have been sorted), wishbone bushes wearing (fairly cheap) and things like DME relays playing up (very cheap to fix).

The best advice I can give is:

1) Get an inspection on the car by a tech who knows what a 964 is. No matter how much you or your mate read, they will never know as much as a tech on an inspection. 200 GBP is money will spent on expert opinion.

2) There will be a lot of dogs for the money; the 964 is getting on a bit and any old performance car can have things wrong with it. Don't be fooled by shiny ones as some of them will be hiding nasty stories.

3) Speak to BergS2 (search members). He his selling a lovely 964C4 for 12k and I know the car and a couple of its previous owners, and it is lovely. I can vouch for it, if that's worth anything. You wouldn't go far wrong buying that as it has had the right bits done inc engine rebuild.
