Hmmmmm.

So the Vesuvius 996 is in for some warranty work, and they lend me a Boxster 2.7 with a Sports exhaust. Very nice indeeed, despite my (kneejerk!) reservations. Which makes me think.

Maybe a brand spanking new entry level Cayman in white with 19 inch wheels and a sports exhaust might light my fire - kind of a GT3RS Lite?

Any views? I am genuinely surprised at how nice the Boxster feels/sounds/goes. Really am!

Yeah. I am seriously amazed at how much I am enjoying the Boxster.

I don't want a soft top, but if the Cayman feels like a beefier hardtop Boxster then count me in. I reckon a few extra quid a month would get me out of six year old car into a spanking new one, and I might even enjoy it more.

Am I speaking HERESY!!!!!???? Shall I be BURNED AT THE STAKE???

I too am getting seriously tempted by the idea of a Cayman. On the road they look SO much better than in photos or showrooms. There's also the peace-of-mind factor in getting a brand new, fully warranteed car with lowish service costs.

good to see a 911er appreciate the "lesser" model

can you get a Boxster with PSE now then?

Cayman= hardcore boxster with engine more willing to rev. Feels about as quick as the 3.4 996.

Vesuvius996,

May be a really stupid question - if you're still using the same dealer as you were when I met you, is the car they lend you insured or do you have to get the insurance (I've never borrowed a car before)? Mine's in for a service tomorrow and I could do with a loaner.

Ta.

They insured the car for me - but bear in mind that my car developed a fault and is being rectified under warranty, I reckon that loaners for service need to be booked LONG way in advance (and even then I don't think they are guaranteed)

Any hints on the 'fault'?

Also thinking of a Cayman, my fathers just picked up his and its a very fine looking vehicle. Had a brief run in it on the 1st when he got it and it felt very nimble and also "lighter" than my 3.6 C2, may have to ring the OPC to see what they could do on one... should pay off more of my mortgage, but what the hell, shrouds dont have pockets!.

That looks so good. Love the wheels and the darker grill bits. Maybe porsche have made the Cayman too close to a 911.

I too love the hadling of the boxter S but the image and looks of the 911 - I would never own a convertable porsche - perhaps the Cayman is the sensible choice.

I think you're all suffering from some form of collective Friday madness. A Cayman in white?

The Cayman is a great car, I saw my first one driving through Hyde park last weekend and it was a peach! Met black, 19" alloys.

Whoever says they are a poor mans porsche needs to get their head out of the class war.

Great for a week, then you will get bored. if you want thrills, a MK2 GT3 is a much better buy for 50K.
