Boxster s hydraulics

Hi,
Had a problem with my boxter tonight, in that it seem to have dropped some fluid from the left rear side of the car. Had no warning lights on the dash but the steering is very heavy. My question is could anyone advice me what they think it is and if it is ok to drive to a garage without damaging anything.

Don't know the car but looking at the PET drawing it seems that the Boxster has a power steering pump full of Pentosin run by an engine-driven pulley. The system has obviously sprung a leak either in a hose, the reservoir or the pump itself.

Normally these pumps don't like to be run dry and can damage themselves due to lack of lubrication. Ring your garage or an OPC and ask their advice about whether it can driven the X miles necessary to get to help. At the same time you could ask the OPC how much a new power steering pump is so that you can warn your cheque book.
