They do three levels of Tracker.
1) You call Tracker. Tell 'em you're cars been nicked and they activate it so the cops can find it.
2) Tracker is connected to the alarm. If your car is nicked Tracker call you...and ask if its OK..if not they activate the system and cops can find it.
3) Tracker is connected to the alarm.If your car is nicked Tracker call you...and ask if its OK..if not they activate the system and the GPS sensor tells 'em where to send the cops.
On my last car I got (3) which is called Horizon and is expensive. On my current one I got (2) which is perfectly good enough and a few hundred quid cheaper and is called Monitor.
On my last car I got a lifetime subscriuption. What this means is as long as you own the car you pay nothing more. This only works out cheaper if you intend to keep the car for more than two or three years. Otherwise pay annually - about £100.
I recommend (2) "Monitor" myself. There again - if its your baby and you can't bear the thought of scrotes getting away with it you could get (3). Apparently the cops (using either system) can recover the car in as little as 20 minutes!

I looked into trackers when i got my car.The insurance premiums didn't actually work out any less once I factored in the cost of paying for the monitor & subscrption.
I worked on the theory that if some one took it I wouldn't really want it back, as it may be damaged in some form.

I had a strange experience with Priv, actually.
Before buying the car I asked about insurance & discounts for tracking systems and was told that it wasn't a requirement, but would gove a 10% discount so went ahead & got a system fitted as soon as I bought the car.
At renewal, I checked that the quoted price included the discount, only to be told that they don't offer discounts for tracking systems and in any case fitting one would be a requirement on my car...
WTF? I can only assume that their policy changed sometime during the year & I don't want to think what would have happened if I had had to make a claim and hadn't had a system fitted!

There is no urgency with the tracker issue as it is fitted at the OPC. Accordingly you don't have to decide at the time you spec the car prior to your car order going "Status X" at the factory.
I would accordingly wait and see what is on the market at the time you have to choose. (ie a week or two before delivery).

When I was considering my options the dealer advised on a Tracker as it is radio-signal based. He said that the problem with Navtrack, and RAC Trackstar, is that they are GPS-based, which makes it easier to block the tracking, i.e. they need satellite line of sight.
Or maybe he just gets a higher commission from Tracker!

Absolutely. I had a car stolen and not recovered a few years ago. I would much rather have a cheque than a possibly accident damaged and repaired car, which is likely to be worth less than before it was stolen. I am also with NU. I ruled out any insurers who insisted on a tracker, as they are just not worth the high cost IMO.
