TVR T350 to 996 C4

Considering a move from the T350 to a 996 C4.

Budget £40k, so probably a 03 or 53 plate, low mileage.

I have driven a few 996's and wasn't overwhelmed by the performance, bit I was smitten by the marque overall.

Question is, has anyone else changed from the same vehicle & if yes, do you miss the performance

Hi there, last year I moved from a Tuscan to 996 C2 02 and I still really miss the straight line brutal acceleration - so much so that I've been tempted back, especially now that they offer a 3 year warranty.

I reckon if you loved the Tiv for the lairiness and straight line speed, then a 'normal' Porker simply won't hit any of the same buttons to start with. Depending on how much the legendary TVR 'niggles' pissed you off, then you *may* grow to love a 'normal' 911. However there's a good chance that you simply won't ever get over the fact that a 996 C4 doesn't have an excess of power over handling / grip.

However Porsche most certainly do sell cars that compete nose-to-nose with TVRs on the best characteristics of TVRs - you just need to head towards RS or GTx land. You won't get a GT2 on your budget, you may be lucky with a mk1 GT3 996 and you may get a 964RS (which doesn't have the straight-line of the TVR but is definitely lairy)

Alternatively you'll need mods - exhaust most certainly to give more character. Silly pipes on a 911 can easily out-shout any TVR I used to own a Griff 500 and thought that had the best noise, until I put the Supercups on my 993...

Remember that the most sensible 996 is aiming at a very different market to any TVR - they tend to get compared more with BMW M3s and the like than TVRs. Try a GT3 of some sort or a tweaked Turbo of any sort, and prepare to get dragged in....

I went from a Cerbera to a 996 C4 about a month ago. I will go back to TVRS one day because of my passion for them,,, but I just needed a reliable, and a car you could have fun with..and Importantly use everyday, without the Niggles!I had always wanted a porsche 911 since i started walking!!With the cerbera , i could nt use it everyday and with proper maintenence costs of approx 3k for the year on a car i hardly used,,i could nt justyfy it, at least if i get a bill that big on my porsche,,,,i would have used it..Maybe a sagaris in a couple of years and No the porsche doesnt have the brutality or accessive speed but its enough for me at the moment..and u can buy a GT3/turbo,, if you want that...,and of course things do go wrong on every car, and this may be a general comment but i always felt certain things that go wrong on the Tvrs should nt,,with the porsche i feel it would be only wear/tear, --- so far I havent look back and love 911 ownership.

I'm considering the complete reverse... 996 C4 to Tuscan. The 996 is good, but possibly too good. Somehow it's just a bit too refined for my tastes.
