Went to the Porsche showroom today......oh dear......

Drove a 03 plate 996 cab, lovely car but not quite what I'm after. It didn't 'grab' me, if you know what I mean.

The sales guy said " why don't you try a Caymen S"..........

B**gger me backwards! I'd heard that they wern't especially fast, but compared to the 996, it felt soooooo alive!

So sure footed, so planted, so exciting! Reminded me a bit of my Elise 111s....with a lot more class though. And, the build quality was a big step up, not from my TVR obviously, but from the 996 in my opinion.

So, after about 3 miliseconds deliberation....... I'm collecting it on Friday!!!!

Bye bye TVR and .....heellllllooooooo Porsche!

Got a good deal too! It's the end of the month and to my amazement, the nice chap gave me a trade in I can't refuse on my TT, dropped the price on the Caymen and I'm selling the T350 privately.

My GF is gonna kill me.........but hey, life's too short!

I am one seriously happy chappy

Congratulations! It's a fantastic car. I would let the boys at RUF look after it after a year or so. Oh, and let your girl pick the color. That always smoothes things over.

996 cab compared to a cayman?

are you mad? try the real deal before speculating with the dreamers

youd get a GT3 or a decent turbo for new cayman money, more money than sense me finks

Right. Maybe some casual comments about how she seems to have lost weight then...

Err....excuse me? Was that aimed at me?

Mad? I think not! More money than sense? Never. It's not me.

GT3. Nice but would be a 3 yr old car. Turbo. 4 yr old car.

I'll take my chance thanks very much. And thanks for your comments

I dont give a feck what the neighbours think. This is not a "how much money have you got" thread.

I'm swopping 2 cars for one. Saving monthly payments and...having a fantastic car to drive.

Good on you, hope you have a great time in the new purchase! One of my mates has set his sights on a Cayman, so any feedback or info on how it drives would be great.....keep us all posted!

Cayman - great little car.

Drove one all yesterday and, as a road car, all you could want. Brilliant balance round corners, great feel of quality inside. Only one complaint. It whines when idleing and when at lower revs. Not a lot but non stop. You can't listen to the engine and have to have the stereo on to drown it out. I dont know if you noticed that - maybee its the rear boxes or the sound proofing.

As for my wheels, I have a 2002 996TT. In comparison it is a thug of a car. Like Ricky Hatton as opposed to Lenox Lewis. But for my motorway miles, its awesome.

Enjoy your motor.
