Yes I have. I very nearly bought one before opting for a new 911 instead. If you want to have a great re-creation the price is actually very close to that of a new base 997. Autofarm makes the best re-creations in the UK, maybe even the world. 30+ years of experience and superb quality.
There is another, cheaper option - Paul Stephens (01440 714884). He also makes 911 re-creations, but for a bit less money than Autofram. I would call them both and try to figure out why Autofarm is more expensive. They both strip the care bare to the metal and bring all parts to as-new condition. Maybe Autofarm pays more attention to detail, but I don't know.
According to Autofarm their re-creations actually hold their value well (although they are surely a bit biased) ;-) . Another experienced source says you should expect the same 2nd hand prices as a new Porsche: a big fall initially, but after that it should hold its value well.
A word of advice if you do decide to go ahead - make your re-creation as light as you can afford. The donor cars are usually mid 80's 3.2s. They're a bit heavier than the '73 car, of course. But the '73 RS driving thrill gets a bit lost unless you go for some weight saving options I think. This was also Evo's conclusion in an Autofarm RS test vs. the 997 when it came out.

Good point. Only issue with that is the pre-'75 911s propensity to rust. Part of the charm of an Autofarm RS is that you get the looks and driving experience of a '73 RS with hassle-free everyday useability. Not the case with these older cars...
earlier cars done properly,rust is not such a issue with a good donnor vehicle,it is getting hard to find rhd cars though.ex california,texas,southern italy etc
I am having one built now,its a 1973 2.4 s,completly bare metal ,new sills etc floors all good,totaly original panels except sills ,then galvanised.
You can then choose what level of power etc you require.

Are you building an RS reproduction or just restoring a 2.4 s? I must say, I would rather do a 2.4 s like Vic rather than build a 2.7 RS repro that costs 50 grand. Might as well just spend a few 10K more and get a real 1973 RS, no?
Yip driven Autofarm RS reps & recreations, also fair few other reps based on various bases & there will be an article on PH in the future on the PS cars.
The AF cars are indeed darn pricey, for 2nd hand value I cant say, can't see it as a rock solid investment, but if compared to a new 911 & viewed long term it surely is suseptable to a lot less dosh lost.
It really depends what you are after, on a tight budget an SC for instance can be made into a pasable rep for a tiny proportion of the AF cost, for me tho the normal 3.2 & Sc engines do lack the vibe of an RS lump, yes 3.2 has more grunt & later SC is not far off, but neither (in stock or near stock form at least) have any of the 2.7 buzz & howl in comparison both are far duller in delivery, so '74 2.7 carrera is a better base- if you can find one, & find one thats not just a pile of rust now that is.
I've always pondered a rep buit on 964, I prefer 964 handling & the engines (weight issue aside) have not only more character but also grunt than Sc & 3.2 lumps- hence quite looking forward to my PS visit & the 964 based cars in particular.

What I'd be looking for is pre-impact looks, light weight, weekend toy.
Not bothered if it's LHD, but I'd like any relatively easy resale without massive depreciation.
I'm not sure what the best route to achieve this is. Bergmeister's car sounds ideal.

Not a repro,its basicaly a copy of my 2.5st,but it is being built as a full fia group 4 2.4s race car,for the tour britania,spa 6 hr historics,hillclimbs etc.The chassis is now the same as my 911 st,with a little more strengthening that was availabel at the time for a st and rsr etc.
It should be quick,930kg target weight plus 270bhp 2.5ltr twin spark motor.
The donnor car is one of the last batch of pre impact bumper 2.4s models,all matching numbers ,last owner 25 years and never had a accident.The 2.4 engine and box will be put on the shell for future years!

I too am interested in creating something in the same ilk as the Autofarm replicas but maybe something more like Paul Stephens cars which to me give you the practicality of an 80's SC or 3.2 but the looks of the RS. I don't want to pretend I have a 73 RS but love the looks of the pre impact bumper models and so hope to combine those with a galvanised and reliable 3.2.
Not wanting to hijack this but I also was asking if anyone knew of good places to locate GRP bumpers and ducktail and also front wings and a long bonnet so while I'm here.......
I have found a few contacts but any suggestions would be welcome?

Slippydiff, that Gambia Red car looks incredible. Bit concerning you've said it's been hanging around a while. I won't really be in a position to buy one for a couple of months, thought I'd do the ground work now. Nice price though, worth investigating I think.
