I recently bought a 964 C2 ('92 Tiptronic)Love it.Had the engine rebuilt after purchase by the local main agent(I'm in Kuwait)who did a magnificent if pricey job. What is the recommended oil-change interval for the 964?They're telling me it's 5000km here but I find that a tad frequent. The Motor's had new valve guides and rings but no rebore or anything that might cause excessive engine wear or a running in period.
12k miles is acceptable.
Many change oil at 6k miles.
However, remember that there may be reasons why Kuwait garages change oil more often - perhaps sand and dust can get into the breather system? Or that some oils break down in the heat more quickly (not that a decent synthetic should anyway).
Remember that most 964s get through oil (as yours used to do!) out of the barrels, by the barrel. So by topping up the dry sump tank, you'd normally keep things fairly fresh anyway. What I say to myself when sticking to 12k intervals - although my 964RS doesn't leak much (v slightly out of one cylinder), as it happens.

Hi Colm -you should join www.titanic.co.uk/964, and www.smartgroups.co.uk/964. Also have a look at John Mile's website www.porsche964.co.uk.
Lots of useful information on all sites.

I'm based in Dubai and the local main agent recommends 10,000 km services (ie 6k miles) for a 996 to combat the effects of increased wear and tear due to dust and heat. Also they recommend a slightly thicker grade of Mobil 1 than in Europe.
Not sure what the recommendation would be on a 964, but can't imagine it would be any less frequent.
