I've had an order in for about 3 months now. Had a call from my OPC (colchester). They believe they are only getting 1 car per dealer, and there are four people in front of me.

Offered me a turbo or a GT3, to which I declined. Would probably get 50 something for my GT3 RS, so there's now way I'm paying 40k ish, just to get a newer car.

So looks like I wont be getting a 997 GT3 RS

So might keep mine and spend some money with Manthey, or go and get something italian & red.

Bugger!

And they may take the piss with the deposit so the others might drop off list.

Nope just order of intent, none of the people had a deposit down, so guess there is still a chance.

Frankly if they can't get new model GT3RS cars to existing current/long term GT3RS owners then someone at Reading should walk the plank.......

I'm with you there, this is my 3rd Porsche after having 2 Turbo's, and I'd put 10k down now if they could secure me a car.

OK I could just go for a GT3 CS but I would then see an RS and really want it.

Got offered tickets to the Carrera Cup and a test drive in a turbo though...

P.S. I prefered your non edited version ;-)

So do I, but sometimes after posting I remember I've agreed to help out and be a moderator on PH. Can't go making death threats, even with good reason.

I had a deposit down on a Turbo, and an order of intent for the GT3RS (I did think the RS was probably an extra 12 months away) - switched the deposit to the GT3RS as soon as I was asked.

Given what's happened to the Turbo 'queue' I'd hang in there, because most of the demand will disappear when people are asked for hard cash.

With out being too nosey, can i just ask what the problem with a £10k deposit is. i assume all you guys with orders etc can easily afford a £10k deposit and i assume that most people would be buying with finance (as it can make more sense than cash sometimes). I really dont want to be nosey its just i wonder how much one 'borrows' rather than puts down when buying a £100k car.

Holy Batmobile... what kind of dynamic gulf should there be between the 996 and 997 GT3 RS iterations to justify shoving fourty grand towards a trade-up... I mean, unless you use it for a 200 miles one way daily commute or 365 track days per year, I'd wager to guess your current car will be a sought-after classic long before it's used up at which point no one will really care whether it's a 996 GT3 RS or 997 GT3 RS...

That makes a fair bit of sense, actually. Methinks for £40K anyone should be able to make a really devastating tool that'd pee on anything Porsche themselves bring out over the next decade or so...

I wouldn't dream of financing a 100k car.

Idea with 10k deposits, is it's supposed to put speculators off.

i.e. a 5k profit on a 3k deposit is a much better return than 5k on 10k given the risks involved.

Personally I don't have a problem with the 10k deposit. I do have a problem with them not giving you an expected delivery date when you make the deposit though. I have more of an issue with Porsche/their dealers telling current customers you can't have the new model of your current car when it comes out.

Finance is a personal thing, dependent on peoples circumstances/cashflow etc.

I would be highly tempted by a 997 GT3 RS.

The annoying part of the whole process is not knowing what the new RS will actually be like.

More power?? Seems unlikely given the amount they have now extracted from the 3.6.

Lighter weight?? Yes, but EU legislation will limit savings to some extent.

Colour?? Exclusive colours??

Putting down £10k is not the issue as far as I'm concerned, I'd like more detail.

I agree - not that I am ever likely to be in a positiob to have one!!

I would suggest to the dealer that if they give you the car then you will put down £20k now. The others may well be bluffing - you are not.

Ok thanks guys. i too agree that if you put £10k down you should be told when your car will arrive. thats not on really.
I only mentioned finance because when i bought my Disco i was offered 2% rate but i paid cash just so that the car was mine, i knew where i stood. Looking back the money would have been better invested returning me 15% as part of my portfoilio than just sat on my driveway etc. horses for courses i suppose.

I guess your right, I sold half my business off this year and was going to treat myself, but looking at the figures 50+K just to change from a 996 RS > 997 RS does indeed seem insane now I see it in black & white!

Oh well guess you just saved me a few quid!

Can put it towards a few ring trips this year

This is all probably old news, but I heard the following today.

The new GT3 is hitting the market in May
The GT3 RS is hitting the market in October
The GT3 RS will cost about 20,000 Euro (about 14,000 GBP) more than the GT3
The RS comes with the Turbos wide-body, and is by all accounts going to be very extreme altogether
As both the GT3 and RSs are arriving so early within the projected life of the 997 range, expect both to be available for quite a while. Porsche won't miss a trick to turn a few quid, and there will be enough GT3 RSs to keep the cars in short supply, but not drastically so. It's all about the money, after all.

I spoke to Reading today, they are getting 4 cars and already have 10 letters for the RS.

I was told you aren't officially on the list until you put the £10k down & are "vetted" by Porsche to be suitable to receive one, e.g. not a speculator! So if they have 10 letter of intent & no deposit's, doesn't that mean you can jump up the list if you part with the folding?

I haven't got a problem with the 10k as long as deliveries aren't too long, waiting a year £l0k @ 5% pays £500 & I would rather have that myself!
