A few thoughts on the GT2 after a month a 2500 miles of fun!

- It's still the most awesome car I've ever driven. Still totally smitten with it.
- The ' me' emotion every time I planted the accelerator within the first week has subsided. It still feels bloody quick, but I am considering chipping to 550.
- The traction is excellent, although the hard suspension does make it a bit flighty on bumpy roads, nothing more than you would expect though.
- There have been absolutely no 'sphincter clenching' moments in it so far, and I do like to 'press on' in general.
- The bucket seat are surprisingly comfy for up to 2 hours driving, after that my back does start to ache.
- Generally reactions to the car are good, I've had no t*sser signals thus far. I've been flashed a few times after overtaking about 4 cars in one hit, but I tend to think it's more the shock and noise of the ballistic missile shooting past that causes this reaction. None of my overtaking manoeuvres would I consider to be a close call.
- Fuel consumption - buy shares in Shell !!! 18Mpg average on road although bear in mind my drive to work is a nice B road and other than that I only take it out to hoon around in. On track I got 6Mpg.
- It does ground out everywhere and I already need a new front lip. Pain in the backside but what can you do...
- Brakes - after one track day and one vmax the brakes are already showing the first signs of deterioration. I cannot decide whether to make a song and dance and try to get a good will claim out of Porsche or just bite the bullet and change to steels.

So overall I am still ecstatic about owning this car. Taking it down to Le Mans in June and hopefully a ring trip sometime soon.

I only get 19mpg on my C2, don't think 18mpg for a GT2 is that bad?

I've seen GT2 front splitters on ebay a couple of times, worth keeping an eye on it.

Sounds great. Always been one of my favorite Porsches. Is is a 2003 --> Model, with the less scary handling?
Should follow Porsche up on the claim for the breaks - after all, almost every other PCCB owner has done.

Making a GT2 sound sane ? Insane !

I get 19mpg out of my GT3 and 16 out of an RS engined 993 --- so the GT2 seems pretty good to me.

PCCB -- if I eeded to I would try for a claim but put my energy into the better steel brakes that are available for track day.

I love my PCCB which do seem to be up to fast road and "blue mist" trackdays. But trackdays + red mist are I am sure the PCCB killer.

Jaybee - No you are right 19Mpg isn't that bad at all. Although I was shocked at 6mpg on track.

Identti - It's a 2002 Model, although to be honest I thought that was the year they changed the suspension a bit. Not sure..

Bod33 - Honestly it doesn't have a name !!! That said the Road Navigator I purchased for it does have a name, due to it's complete incompetence and constant s/w crashes it is now called 'Road 'C-U-N-tea' Will try and put some more pics up later.

R1, who do you use to insure the GT2 i am wondering what the premium will be like compared to the £400 i pay at the moment to insure my 993, not that it will make any difference because i know to expect quite a hike in premium its part and parcel of owning a newer car. Oh and by the way having tracked subarus and evos i can confirm that 6 mpg on track is about right, it must be a turbo thing, unless any GT3 owners know different

I used to get about 7-8mpg on track in my Integrale. Could well be a Turbo thing.

Errr, believe it not Tesco's !! Underwritten by N.U. It costs about £1300 per annum, which was only another £300 on what I paid for the C2. I do have a pretty immaculate driving record though. May well be cheaper for you, I'm not quite 30 yet.

Me too, I was expecting at least £2k. I do feel pretty fortunate to be able to have this car, although to put you mind at rest, I have worked pretty damn hard over the past 10yrs to get it. The people I admit to resenting are those that have been bought cars with Daddies money....I'm only jealous though !!

Great to hear you're having a blast with the car. FWIW I was insured with elephant.co.uk and was paying about £850 per year. Dunno if it's worth getting a renew quote from them.

Enjoy the trip to Le Mans, I went in mine last year and French roads are awesome for a car like that. Be sure to put some red and blue stripes down the centre of the car, it will look the dogs on a car like that (see my pathetic attempt of this on my C4S in my profile)
