Remote Starters

Ive got a 924S and love it to bits, but ive always wanted a remote starter for my car. Have any of you lot ever had one? Are there any problems etc. with them? Thanks for your help

BUT i once watched a guy with a sheddy old BMW, in which the owner was immeasurably proud, boast to a gathered audience about his remote start for the best part of 20 minutes. and being a nerd i lingered cos i wanted to see it work too. plus, i like a linger, i do.

unfortunately, when he pressed the start button his car leapt forward into a rover 100 cos he'd left it in gear. this was many moons ago, I'm pretty sure they cant be started if the car is in gear any more. that said, i actually wee'd a little bit from laughing so much.

moral of the story: always linger.

leaving a car to idle is not a good way to warm it up...

Did you not learn anything from the Castrol Magnetec adverts?!
It'll be in your owners handbook - start the car and drive off immediately. It takes a lot longer for a car to warm up on idle, so you're actually doing more damage to the engine leaving it to idle for a while. Just drive off but keep your revs below 3k rpm until it gets to operating temp.

Bugger, didnt think you guys would counter that! Yeah the only reason i would like one is the coolness factor :P I can get one included with an immobiliser, which is something ive been thinking about anyway. What do you guys think?

Mate of mine has one on his M3, I thought it was a bit pointless TBH, but then sitting outside a restaurant in SPA last year in about 110 degrees of heat, being able to hit the aircon to "big chill" helped quite a lot!! The guys in the E30 M3's we were with soon came around as well!!

A mate of mine has Clifford remote start on his Accord Type R. The Clifford one works no problem on a manual car but a lot of the cheaper ones I have seen on Ebay etc can only be used on an automatic. I think it is pretty cool

Yes, on a public road.

I've got a Clifford one on mine, hasn't been used though.
